Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, a renowned English poet, wrote the following poetic lines titled, The Singer.
“God sent his singers upon the earth. With songs of sadness and of mirth. That they might touch the hearts of men And bring them back to heaven again.”The above quotation by Henry W. Longfellow epitomizes God’s intention in having music in the church, and the establishment of choirs after the order of the biblical Levites who served in the Hebrew’s temple led by Aaron. Therefore, as an integral part of the church, music should uplift the hearts of men and bring the disconsolate back to God. Music is an important vehicle for evangelism as commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ, in Matthew 28:19. Music is so important that it appears 575 times in the whole of the bible with a whole book of 150 chapters of the Psalms or “Songs of David” dedicated to it. Therefore, a church without music is a dead church.
MFM Music School
MFM MUSIC SCHOOL coordinates the Music education/Examination activities of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries. Areas of activity are as follows:
- SCHOOL OF CHORAL MUSIC:
Phase 1 – For fresh entrants – music greenhorns
Phase 2 – For choristers wishing to upgrade in Theory or Sight Reading.
- LEADERSHIP COURSE - MFM Music Ministers’ Course:
The primary task of this department is to coordinate and standardize Orchestra music at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Worldwide. Noteworthy, the MFM Orchestra is a vision inspired by God through His servant, Dr D.K. Olukoya. The aim is first, to institute a section that will skilfully praise the Almighty God with diverse instruments of music for His wondrous deeds; second is to rescue youths from vices, thereby engaging them in the productive venture of orchestra music making to the glory of God.
This is a department that functions as an arm of the MFM Music Ministry. Acappella (spelled “acapella” in Latin) is a style of vocal performance without instrumental accompaniment. In other words, the voice is the only instrument employed during acappella singing. The term ‘acappella’ literally means ‘in the manner of the chapel’ in Italian, more so, this style of music making has its root in early religious music. To the glory of God, the Acapella Department at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries is a large one, comprising groups from the International headquarters and almost all branches of MFM worldwide. Some of these wonderful groups include:
The music bands was inaugurated as a department of the MFM Music Ministry by the General Overseer, Dr D.K. Olukoya during the 2014 Music Ministry Solemn Assembly. The department has been set up to discover instrumental and vocal talents in praise and worship groups in MFM churches worldwide. Since inception, we have visited several branches and regions, both within and outside Nigeria. These visits have yet again affirmed to us that God has indeed blessed the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries with talented individuals; subsequently, many have been discovered and featured at major international programmes. It is great to know they are using their gifts to the glory of God. It is our prayer that God will continually strengthen us for His service in Jesus name.
Groups & Solos
The Groups and Solos department is one of the newly formed arms of the MFM Music ministry. Just as the name implies, this arm of the MFM Music ministry comprises members of the music ministry that minister either as an individual or as a small group. Simply put, this department coordinates music ministrations in the form of solo, duet, trio, quartet, quintet and any other small ensemble presentations. The department accommodates members of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries who are endowed with the gift of music (either naturally or through previous engagements in Church music) but their daily schedules would not permit them to attend regular choir rehearsals or meetings. If you qualify for this category of people, we encourage you to identify with us as there is ample opportunity to still function within the music ministry irrespective of your busy schedule.
BRIEF HISTORY The Guitar Choir is a vision inspired by God and became established in Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries on the 3rd of September 2006. After the approval of the General Overseer, the group gained congregational acceptance through the 1st ministration and several other performances during services and musical preludes. In October 2006, the Guitar Choir embraced Musical Prelude at the International Headquarters which lasted for about two years. Concurrently, participation at the Prayer City began with the prelude in November 2006 during the M.F.M convention. In the same vein, the Power Must Change Hands Prelude became established from December 2006 till date with full participation of the Guitar Choir.
This department is assigned to coordinate the research arm of MFM Music Ministry worldwide; activities includes, but is not limited to, sourcing materials for MFM music ministrations, organising music symposiums, and seeking progressive paths for the music ministry. The research department also serves as the ‘think tank’ section of the music ministry. Moreover, in principle, every member of the music ministry is part of the research team – bearing in mind that we owe it to God as members of this ministry, to sought ways of improving the ministry either musically, spiritually, administratively or otherwise. Although formally commissioned by the General Overseer, Dr D.K. Olukoya at the 2014 Music Ministry Solemn Assembly, permit me to say that the research department is as old as the music ministry itself. After all, there would have been the need to research and source for music materials for the very first ministration.
The Mass Choir as a department of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Music Ministry was announced and established by Daddy G.O at the 2014 Music Ministry Solemn Assembly. The department was thereafter commissioned at the September 2014 Power Must Change Hands programme. The primary task of this department is to coordinate and supervise logistics for Mass Choir engagements. This also includes the disbursements of transport fares to members whose region cannot afford to sponsor their transport fares to the rehearsal venue.
The Associations department of the MFM Music Ministry was established by our father in the Lord, Dr D.K. Olukoya at the 2014 Solemn Assembly. The primary assignment of this arm of the music ministry is to coordinate the various associations present within the MFM Music Ministry. These include but is not limited to the Praise Worship Association, the Organists’ Association among others. Our aim is to encourage musicians within the MFM body, foster unity and also seek ways to address challenges facing the groups that make up the association department. The task before this department is huge as we are expected to ensure proper coordination within the various associations in the MFM Music Ministry, as well as create platforms for discussion and productive engagements for the development of the ministry.
